Special Edition of Sagħtar – Maltese for Foreigners

Fondazzjoni Sagħtar has just launched a special edition of the Sagħtar magazine, titled “Il-Malti għall-Barranin” (Maltese for Foreigners).

This edition focuses on providing resources and tools for educators to help instil a first appreciation and love for the Maltese language in young students and those who are just starting their journey of learning Maltese. This is especially useful for foreign students so they can start integrating into our society. Therefore, it is intended as a valuable aid for educators working with students, especially in primary school, helping them familiarize themselves with Maltese, understand it, and begin using it in the context of everyday life and Maltese culture. The printed publication is distributed in schools, while the digital version can be accessed on the website saghtar.org.mt.

The activities and resources in this special Sagħtar edition can be used in class, at home with adults, or individually by the child. The activities are simple and fun, so that children can learn while playing or engaging in various tasks. These include coloring, mazes, crafts, logos, sticker games, reading, making references, and more. The topics relate to themes such as family, school, food, clothing, nature, animals, transport, numbers, professions, and more.

The resources in this book were written by Ms Raisa Abela, with the support of Mr Kenneth Busuttil, Director for International Student Outreach within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation. The illustrations were done by Ms Elisa von Brockdorff, and the design was done by Ms Celine Debono.

This project was financed through the Small Initiatives Support scheme administered by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector within the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector.
